I work with individuals across the lifespan with a particular interest in working with young adults presenting with relational conflicts and existential concerns (i.e., purpose/meaning of life) as well as issues related to spirituality/religion. Often times my work with clients focuses on (re)building meaningful relationships with family, friends, and others. I also assist clients with navigating their interpersonal conflicts, while exploring their self-image and world-views.
I value the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients as it is the vehicle for change and the most significant predictor of treatment success. I engage in active listening and provide empathic responses to facilitate the creation of a holding environment in which clients feel safe and secure to share and explore their experiences, while I provide interpersonal feedback with a focus in the here-and-now. I investigate with clients the dynamics of their family of origin as I believe early childhood experiences, including the attachment style to caregivers, convey significant information relating to their interpersonal patterns, as well as the defense mechanisms they employ to manage uncomfortable emotions.
In addition to individual and couples therapy, I provide comprehensive psychological assessment to children, adolescents, and adults to assist with treatment planning and diagnosis.
