I am Karen R Swanay, LPC-MHSP, CAAP, with Knoxville Mental and Behavioral Services. I am a therapist and community member in Knoxville originally from Boston MA, and New Brunswick, Canada.
My life experiences, education, and practical experience have reinforced my passion and belief in the science of behavior and the benefits of therapy for everybody. Whether you are dealing with maintaining your mental health, habits, relationships, work-life balance, or are in crisis there is no wrong time to be in therapy. I believe in a collaborative and egalitarian approach to therapy at the same time, I provide step by step instruction for behavior change so you are not left guessing.
As a member of the queer community who pursues a fulfilling life with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) I strive to provide my clients with a well-rounded approach to enrich their daily lives while creating a safe space to be their authentic selves. Additionally, I am comfortable providing guidance to and working with parents and spouses of individuals with ASD and ADHD (AuDHDers).
I specialize in Autism, ADHD, and OCD, am certified in Animal Assisted Psychotherapy, and provide support for the queer and kink communities. While I generally see clients eighteen years and older, requests from other populations are taken on a case-by-case basis.
I believe in the process of therapy and look forward to starting and continuing the journey with all of my clients. If you would like to be a client of mine please reach out through our website at www.knoxvillebehavioral.com.
