Health Psychology Services with Dr. Devereaux

I graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and have been working in integrated healthcare since that time. My doctoral training focused on health psychology and the social stigma that accompanies many psychiatric and medical conditions. I have provided behavioral health services to a diverse range of patients, including veterans, incarcerated individuals, those with substance use disorders, patients in medical facilities, post-trauma surgery patients, bariatric patients, individuals dealing with chronic pain, chronically ill teens, and geriatric patients. My clinical goal is to help patients recognize the connection between their health status and their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By understanding this link, they can work towards changing their health-related behaviors to alleviate pain and physical symptoms, thereby improving their quality of life. Living with a chronic illness can be challenging, and sometimes it takes a little extra help to live well.

In my current practice, I specialize in providing presurgical evaluations for patients with chronic illnesses. I collaborate with several large medical practices in the East Tennessee area to support their patients in achieving long-term health improvements as they prepare for surgical procedures like weight loss (bariatric) surgery and spinal cord stimulator implants. Additionally, I offer independent medical evaluations (IME or second opinions) for disability and Worker’s Compensation cases involving psychiatric diagnoses.
